“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” Alvin Toffler – 3 Feb 2014
We all know that today’s fast-paced lifestyle demands us to keep flowing into the modern current because if we are not flexible enough in our approaches we might miss the chance.
As an educator, I’m always in the cycle of learning, unlearning and relearning, and I find it truly interesting! But here I’ve made a slight change in my strategy, and that is learning, unlearning and fun learning! Though it adds a lot on my plate, I love it anyways.
In my projects, ‘Learning Through Stories’ I use stories to make my students understand all the tough concepts in a fun loving way. My fun teaching tool kit is always ready before my class starts. In my upcoming posts I will keep sharing my tools and techniques with my readers.
Let’s get back to UNLEARNING. Does it mean to forget everything that we know? No, it doesn’t mean that in fact, it means to adopt the new knowledge of today with a mind ready to accept it easily. One should unlearn by freeing their minds from stagnated ideas, norms, beliefs etc and be ready to learn with open mind in such a way that the task becomes convincing and interesting.
“In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and—snap!—the job’s a game!” – Mary Poppins
A simple formula to know whether it’s time to unlearn and relearn is to question yourself about the current doubtful situation. Such as:
What’s going well?
What’s not working well in my life?
Am I creating purpose in my life?
Are my goals aligned to my values? Etc.
Ask yourself similar questions, and the answers will help you sort the issue. You will get an idea that it’s time to not repeat the same thing, but to try the one which is clearer, better and more interesting than the previous one.
Be it a profession, relationship, friendship or family life- learning, unlearning and relearning is a vital part to make it last longer.
HAPPY RELEARNING WITH FUN!

I believe in the idea to unlearn and declutter, forgetting value system that hinders our progress in the quest to grow as people. Thanks for sharing.
We should constantly question our beliefs and change them if they are not reasonable anymore. Good post.
True that. We need to learn, unlearn and relearn for a progressive life! And unless we unlearn, we cannot make space for learning new things and improving ourselves! Loved the way you have turned the prompt into a great learning piece.
I so agree with you when you say, ‘
Be it a profession, relationship, friendship or family life- learning, unlearning and relearning is a vital part to make it last longer.’
Thanks for sharing this thought.
Oh yes unlearning, relearning and upgrading is much needed to keep up.
I agree with your concept. In fact, I do something similar while teaching anaesthesia to students in the hospital too 🙂
Well said. We all need to learn, unlearn and relearn. I have seen that after a we stop learning and unlearning as we get so fixated with our own ideas and experiences. But this should be a continuous process. The idea of fun learning is wonderful and that makes learning easier too!
